What’s New? What’s Next for 2025?

A while back, I saw a mural with a Chris Emdin quote that said we should create our classrooms to represent the world as we wish it could be. I’ve been thinking about that a lot - how we create these aspirational worlds, worlds that are good enough for our children. Without a doubt, we can change things. Those of us in Education have to believe this: that people can do better, that learning matters, and that we can un-learn damaging things. This is not starry-eyed optimism. This is simple fact. I am doing the things that move me towards this goal:

Writing: Stay tuned for Book #2! Joi and I are in the midst of our next work. Thank you for all your support of Anti-Blackness at School. It’s been our privilege to learn along with you. Book #2 will highlight this new learning.

Professional development: I love teaching. Full stop. I value every opportunity I have to work with teachers, administrators and other school folks on these really hard issues. Reach out if I can assist.

Mentoring: Supporting younger faculty, grad students, and new teachers is an opportunity for me to “pay back” the powerful mentors I have had all long the way (I am looking at you Tyrone, Mike, Kisha, and Susan). I am glad it is my turn now.
